St Joseph’s, Taree is a Catholic community that strives to actively promote excellence in a learning environment based on Gospel values.
We endeavour to equip our students with the skills and knowledge to enjoy life, to contribute to society and to act responsibly towards other people and the school. Our Mission is to provide a quality Catholic school that enables each student to reach their full potential spiritually, academically, socially and emotionally. To achieve this, we provide a contemporary approach to teaching which recognises the pedagogical value in promoting a student centred focus that is scaffolded and supported by quality teaching practices.
Our school is led by a teaching staff who continue to maintain a deep commitment to professional development and personal learning. In providing an integrated, inclusive, balanced curriculum, we promote comprehensive outcomes based on assessment and reporting strategies that have been developed to track student progress and assist in identifying those at risk. Visitors to the school often comment on the welcoming and happy ‘family’ atmosphere that permeates the school.
St Joseph’s is surrounded by a picturesque, bush land setting on several hectares of carefully maintained park-like grounds. St Joseph’s enjoys strong links between the school and the indigenous members of the local community, links which are supported by programs that foster a deeper understanding of Aboriginal culture. We also enjoy a school population consisting of 25 different cultural heritages, and intercultural harmony and cooperation are significant features of our school ethos.
St Joseph’s offers its students many creative and performing arts opportunities in the form of choirs, dance groups, whole school musical production, Kodaly Early Childhood music lessons and a newly formed ensemble music program for brass and wind instruments. Expanding the opportunities for the use of technology is a continuing school priority with funds being diverted to expand the number of interactive whiteboards in the school and a dedicated technology learning laboratory.
Students have access to a variety of sporting events which enable them to participate at a diocesan and state level. We are becoming more environmentally responsive with a Kitchen Garden program and the installation of solar panels and water and energy saving devices. All students participate in the healthy promotion of the ‘Crunch and Sip’ program and have an opportunity to participate in ‘Active after School’ fitness program and Breakfast Club. We provide positive welfare programs assisted by the school Chaplaincy initiative.
Students of St Joseph’s Primary School, Taree are encouraged to continue their Catholic education by attending St Clare’s High School, Taree.
