st-josephs-taree-08Awards System

Rewards are consequences which promote and reinforce appropriate behaviour or attitudes. They are also used to acknowledge positive efforts and achievements. Rewards may be given to recognise both individual and group behaviour. Staff members use a variety of ways to reinforce and encourage positive attitudes and values among our students. These include the use of praise, stamps, and stickers, showing work to a buddy class and/or member of the Executive team and displaying work in the classroom and at assembly.

Fabulous Effort Awards

Are given by all staff for behaviour, citizenship, school spirit and attitude. These can be awarded by Classroom Teachers, Librarian, Learning Support Teacher, Aboriginal Education Worker and the Learning Support Assistants throughout the course of any school day for positive out of class behaviours. When a student has received ten Fabulous Effort Awards the class teacher will present the child with a reward.

The Fabulous Effort Awards are collected in a designated box on the classroom teacher’s desk. It is the student’s responsibility to put the awards in the box. A record is to be kept by the classroom teacher.

Outstanding Effort Certificate

Presented at the whole school assembly which is held on a regular basis (dates determined at the commencement of each term). This certificate is specifically in recognition of ten Fabulous Effort Awards. The recipient/s of this award will have their names published in the school newsletter for that week.

The classroom teacher will record the number of certificates and notify the secretary of the award for the school newsletter. When a student has received five Outstanding Effort Certificates the Principal will present the child with a Principal’s Award.

Principal’s Award

Presented at the whole school assembly which is held on a regular basis (dates determined at the commencement of each term). This Award is in recognition of five Outstanding Effort Certificates. The recipient/s of this award will have their name/s published in the school newsletter for that week. The classroom teacher will record the number of certificates and notify the Principal to write the award and the secretary to publish the student’s name in the school newsletter.

Fab Fifty Trophy

Five Principal’s Awards entitle the student to the Fabulous Effort Trophy/Badge. They will be presented at the afternoon assembly. The recipient/s of this award will have their name published in the school newsletter for that week and have their name placed on the school noticeboard out the front of the school for 1 week.

  • The awards can be accumulated across school years
  • It is the responsibility of each child to keep their awards safe
  • A folder will be created on the Staff Drive titled ‘Fabulous Effort Awards’ for staff to add child’s name, class and date of award as a way of keeping records of the number and type of awards. If a child’s name is already on the list, just add class and date
  • Notify the Principal when a ‘Principal’s Award ‘or Trophy/Badge is to be awarded, so they can be organised for the next scheduled assembly
  • Once a Fabulous Effort Trophy/Badge has been achieved, the student can start over and try to gain another
  • Class teachers can keep their list in their class roll or displayed in the classroom.

Merit Certificate

Merit Certificates recognising general academic achievements will be given out at assembly each morning via a roster system drawn up at the commencement of each term – as per the current format.
