Welcome to St Joseph’s Primary School, Taree

St Joseph’s Primary School, Taree was opened on 29 January 1923 with an initial enrolment of eighty-eight students and a staff of five Sisters of St Joseph’s under the principalship of Sister Mary De Sales. The commitment to Catholic education displayed by the members of the Taree Parish, their Parish Priests, the Sisters of St Joseph and lay members of staff over the years has ensured that the educational foundations laid during the school’s early years have been strengthened and further developed for the benefit of all past and present St Joseph’s Primary students.

St Joseph’s is currently a two-stream school, operating under the umbrella of the Catholic Schools Office in the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle. The school has a total enrolment of approximately four hundred students, split into around fifteen classes plus a staff of committed full and part time teachers including support staff. The staff and students of St Joseph’s moved into new school facilities at St Joseph’s Drive on 25 May 1998. These buildings were blessed by Bishop Michael Malone and officially opened by the Hon Mark Vaile MP on Sunday 9 August 1998.

One of the vital characteristics of the St Joseph’s school community is the close relationship that exists between teachers and parents in their role as co-educators of the children in their care. Obviously a prerequisite for the maintenance and continued development of this link is the need to ensure that parents are fully informed about all matters relating to the nature and function of St Joseph’s Primary, Taree.

This website has been designed to fulfil that very important objective. I am confident that you will find it to be an informative and practical resource throughout your family’s association with this school community.
